Burkburnett

City in northern Texas, 24 km/15 mi northwest of Wichita Falls and just south of the Red River and the Oklahoma border; population (1990) 10,100. It refines petrol and manufactures fibreglass pipe.

It was settled in 1907 as a livestock and produce shipping centre. With the discovery of oil, it was a boomtown of 30,000 inhabitants by 1918.

Burial will be at Burkburnett Cemetery in Burkburnett, Texas.
He attended Oklahoma State, which was Hicks' first choice during his senior season at Burkburnett High, a few miles north of Wichita Falls.
The Longhorns recruited him at Burkburnett High School, but because of Southwest Conference scandals he chose UCLA.
