Burnett, Peter (Hardeman) (1807-1895)

US public official. He was the first governor of California (1849-51) and president of the Pacific Bank in San Francisco.

He was born in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1843 he went to Oregon and led a group of goldseekers to California in 1848, when he briefly served as the pioneer and settler John A Sutter's attorney.
