Burnie

Port in Tasmania, Australia, 148 km/92 mi northwest of Launceston; population (1996) 19,134. It is the fourth-largest city in Tasmania, a major industrial centre, and a deep-water port exporting local timber, dairy products, vegetables, minerals, and fine paper. Burnie is also Australia's largest manufacturer of paper.
