Buru

Island in the Maluku archipelago of Indonesia, lying between the Seram and Banda Seas; area 9,583 sq km/3,700 sq mi; population (2000) 100,000. Buru is mountainous, with marshy coasts, a forested interior, and some tropical savannah. Exports include teak and cajeput oil. The main town is Namlea.
