Burwash

Village in East Sussex, England, 23 km/14 mi northwest of Hastings; population (2001) 2,500. Bateman's House, to the southwest of the village, was built in 1634, and was the home of the writer Rudyard Kipling between 1902 and 1936; it is now a National Trust property.

The tower of the church of St Bartholomew is Norman. There is a plaque in the church commemorating the death of Kipling's only son at the Battle of Loos in 1915.
