Busching, Anton Friedrich (1724–1793)

German geographer and theologian. One of the creators of modern geography, his Description of the Earth (1754–92), was the most complete and scientific work of its kind, and was translated into many languages.

He was appointed professor of philosophy at Gottingen, Germany in 1759, and minister to the Protestant congregation in St Petersburg (Leningrad) in 1761. He went to Berlin in 1766 as a director of a Gymnasium (grammar school).
