Bushnell, David (c. 1742–1824)| US inventor and physician. He built the first American submarine, Bushnell's Turtle, which was tried unsuccessfully against British ships. He taught and practised medicine in Georgia. |
| He was born in Saybrook, Connecticut, and was a graduate of Yale. He was a Continental Army engineer 1779–83, and spent several years in France. |
