bushwhacker

In the American Civil War, a pro-Confederacy guerrilla. Infamous for their ruthless methods, the bushwhackers attacked, murdered, and robbed Union supporters and destroyed their land and property. High profile examples include the outlaws William C Quantrill and Jesse James. The bushwhackers' Union counterparts were the jayhawks.
