Butler

City and administrative headquarters of Butler County, western Pennsylvania, 48 km/30 mi northeast of Pittsburgh; population (1990) 15,700. A blue-collar suburb in an area rich in coal, natural gas, oil, and limestone, it has long also been a manufacturing centre. Products include railway carriages and parts, metals, chemicals, and electronic equipment.

It is home to Butler County Community College (1965).

Town in southeastern Wisconsin, on the Menomonee River, a suburb 8 km/5 mi northwest of Milwaukee; population (1990) 2,100.
