Buzǎu

Capital of Buzǎu county, Romania, on the River Buzǎu, 68 km/43 mi northeast of Bucharest; population (1993) 149,000. It is a market town at the centre of a cereal and livestock region, trading in grain, timber, and petroleum, and produces metalwork and wire. Buzǎu has a 12th-century bishop's palace and a 15th-century cathedral.
