Buzzards Bay| Large inlet of the Atlantic Ocean on the southeast coast of Massachusetts; length 48 km/30 mi; width 8–15 km/5–9 mi. New Bedford stands on the bay at the mouth of the Acushnet River, which falls, with other small streams, into the bay. The bay is enclosed on the south side by the Elizabeth Islands, and is connected to Cape Cod Bay by the Cape Cod Canal. Buzzard's Bay is a noted area for recreational sailing. |
