Capel

Coastal town in southwest Western Australia, 204 km/127 mi south of Perth; population (1996) 1,300. Capel is the main source of Western Australia's mineral sands, including ilmenite, titanium, zicron, and rutile. Other industries include wine production and dairy, beef, sheep, and goat farming. The region has a reputation for horse breeding and training, and for its rare tuart (Eucalyptus gomphocephala) forests.
