Carmen

Opera by Georges Bizet (libretto by H Meilhac and L Halévy, based on the story by Prosper Mérimée), first produced at the Opéra-Comique, Paris, France, on 3 March 1875. In the story, the bullfighter Don José is caught between the gypsy girl Carmen and his original love, Micaela. Obsessed by Carmen, who soon rejects him, he kills her outside a bullring.
