CLIMAP

Project that gathers information on sea-surface temperatures in different periods to produce palaeoclimatic maps for various parts of the world.

The project comprises a multi-institutional consortium of scientists, formed 1971, which studies long-term climatic change through analysis of deep-sea sediments and through a series of climate-simulation experiments. Made up primarily of American and British scientists, the consortium is administered by the Geological Observatory of Columbia University, New York.
