Cody

Resort town and administrative headquarters of Park County, northwest Wyoming, USA, on the Shoshone River, situated at the entrance to Yellowstone National Park; population (2000) 8,800. It is in a region of dude and working ranches and oilfields, irrigated by the Buffalo Bill Dam and Reservoir, 10 km/6 mi to the southwest. Tourism is the mainstay of Cody's economy. Other industries include oil refining and gypsum board manufacture. The town was founded by US showman William F Cody (‘Buffalo Bill’) in 1901.

Cody is the site of the Museum of the Old West, the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, and the Whitney Gallery of Western Art.
