Caballe, Montserrat (1933- )

Spanish operatic soprano. Specializing in the operas of Bellini, Donizetti, and Verdi, she became famous overnight after a concert performance of Donizetti's Lucrezia Borgia at Carnegie Hall, New York, in 1965. Her secure technique and excellent breathing control enable her to sing a very wide repertory.
