Cable News NetworkInternational television news channel; the 24-hour service was founded in 1980 by US entrepreneur Ted Turner (1938– ) and has its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. It established its global reputation in 1991 with eyewitness accounts from Baghdad of the beginning of the Gulf War. In 1995, CNN's owner, Turner Broadcasting System Inc, was bought by Time Warner Inc, which subsequently became the largest media company in the world.
