Distribution of broadcast signals through cable relay systems. Narrow-band systems were originally used to deliver services to areas with poor regular reception; systems with wider bands, using coaxial and fibreoptic cable, are increasingly used for distribution and development of home-based telephone and television services.

Adelphia Communications is looking for buyers for its cable television system serving more than 1 million Southern Californians, the company said Wednesday.
The Company has closed on its first cable television system and has selected additional strategic cable television systems all to be upgraded and consolidated; resulting in increased bandwidth, improved customer service, and improved reliability.
Its publishing, HBO pay-cable services and cable television system operations also posted profit gains for the quarter while its recorded music business matched last year's performance.
