Cadillac

City in Wexford County, west-central Michigan, USA, on Lakes Cadillac and Mitchell, 60 km/37 mi southeast of Traverse City; population (2000) 10,000. It is a distribution centre for a region producing vegetables, livestock, grains, and dairy products. Manufactures include auto tyres, truck parts, and leather and wood products. Tourism is also important.

Originally called Clam Lake by lumbermen who settled here in the 1860s, it was renamed (1877) after Detroit's founder, Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac.

It is headquarters for Manistee and Huron national forests; boating, fishing, and winter sports make it a popular year-round resort.
