Cadi dupé, Le

Opera by Christoph Willibald von Gluck (libretto by P R Lemonnier), first produced at the Burgtheater, Vienna, Austria, in December 1761. The story tells how the judge wants to divorce his wife Fatima and take the young Zelmira instead. She refuses him and he takes revenge by engaging her to an apparently destitute man, who turns out to be her lover, Nouradin.
