Caduff, Sylvia (1937- )

Swiss conductor. She studied in Berlin, Germany, with Herbert von Karajan, and in Lucerne, Switzerland. In 1966 she won the Mitropoulos Competition, and was assistant to Leonard Bernstein at the New York Philharmonic Orchestra 1966-67. She was guest conductor with the Berlin, Munich, and Royal Philharmonics, and was the first woman to hold a musical directorship in Europe (at Solingen, Germany, 1977-86).
