CaesareaAncient city in Palestine (now Qisarya). It was built by Herod the Great 22-12 BC, and named in honour of the Roman emperor Augustus. The constructions included an artificial harbour (portus Augusti). Caesarea was the administrative capital of the Roman province of Judaea. |
