Cagayan de Oro

University town and capital of Misamis Oriental province on Mindanao Island in the Philippines; population (2000) 461,900. Cagayan de Oro is the centre of the Philippine pineapple industry, and is also an important transportation centre for northern Mindanao, with an international airport and a highway leading south.
