World War II naval action between Allied and Italian forces 9 April 1940. Australian and British naval forces escorting a convoy to Alexandria clashed in the Mediterranean Sea with an Italian fleet, which withdrew after sustaining damage to one of their main battleships, the Guilio Cesare.
