Calatayud

Market town in the province of Zaragoza, northeast Spain; population (2001) 18,000. Founded by the Moors, Calatayud has a collegiate church, originally a mosque, and a 12th-century church founded by the Templars. There are rock dwellings here, and the ruins of the Roman town of Bibilis lie 3 km/2 mi to the east.
