The city lies on a peninsula overlooking Atlas Bay on the Gulf of California. It is 1,125 km/700 mi long and 80–210 km/50–130 mi wide, reaching a depth of about 2,595 m/8,500 ft. The chief ports on the gulf are Guaymas on the mainland and La Paz on the peninsula. The Colorado River reaches the sea at the gulf. |
