Calverley, Charles Stuart

Calverley, Charles Stuart (1831-1884)

English poet and parodist. He translated the Idylls of the Greek poet Theocritus into English verse, but is best remembered for the parodies contained in Fly Leaves (1872).

Calverley was born in Martley, Worcestershire, studied at Cambridge, and became a barrister in London.
