Camarines Sur

Province of southeast Luzon Island in the Philippines; area 5,267 sq km/2,034 sq mi; population (1995) 1,433,000. The capital is Pili. The province is crossed by volcanic mountain ranges (including Mount Isarog), and there are important gold and timber industries in the highlands. Coconuts, rice, and hemp are produced in the fertile soil of the lowlands; vegetable oil is also produced, and fishing is important. Naga City is the centre of trade and commerce. Tourism is centred around San Miguel Bay.

The province is known as the granary of the Philippines. It is home to several Negrito peoples.
