Cambini, Giovanni Giuseppe (1746-1825)

Italian violinist and composer. He was a pupil of Giovanni Battista Martini at Bologna. In 1770 he settled in Paris, France, where at first he had great success both as a composer and conductor. Later his fortunes declined, and he died in poverty.

Works

19 operas, including Alcide (1782), ballets, an oratorio, 60 symphonies, 144 quartets and quintets; church music.
