Arnolfo di Cambio (c. 1245-c. 1302)

Italian sculptor and architect, born at Colle di Val d'Elsa. He was a pupil of Nicola di Pisano, whom he assisted in his work on Siena Cathedral. He designed the facade of Florence Cathedral, as well as the church of Santa Croce (c. 1294 onwards). According to the art historian Giorgio Vasari, he also designed the Palazzo Vecchio (1298-1314).
