Cameroon, Mount

The highest of a series of volcanic peaks and islands in the Republic of Cameroon, overlooking the Bight of Biafra and rising to 4,070 m/13,354 ft. The volcano is still active and last erupted in 1986. The enormous cone has several craters and is composed of basaltic lavas and ash.

Although not snow-capped, the mountain shows clear altitudinal zoning of vegetation, the forest giving way to tree ferns, dwarf trees, and tussock grasses, and eventually to mosses and turf patches near the summit.
