Camiguin

Camiguin

Island province of the Philippines off the northwest coast of Mindanao Island; area 254 sq km/98 sq mi; population (1995) 68,000. The capital is Mambajao. Camiguin is heavily forested (although deforestation is now taking place). There are seven volcanoes, the largest of which is Hibok-Hibok, rising to 1,320 m/4,330 ft, which last erupted in 1951. Fishing and farming are the main activities, with sweet lanzones fruit being grown on the slopes of Hibok-Hibok.
