Fort Hood

Military reservation, in Bell and Coryell counties, central Texas; population (1990) 35,600. It is located to the north of Killeen. Established in 1942 as Camp Hood, it was a major World War II training centre, housing almost 100,000 personnel at one point. Renamed in 1946, it now is home to the 1st Cavalry and 2nd Armoured divisions.
