Commission for Racial Equality

Executive body established in 1976 to promote racial equality in England, Scotland and Wales. In 1996 it had 1,750 applications for assistance in cases of racial discrimination and handled 142 litigation (legal) cases. A Commission for Racial Equality for Northern Ireland was established in 1997 with similar powers.

Among the performers are 30 dancers from the Toxteth group the Greenhouse project, set up in 1998 to promote community diversity, who are being sponsored by the Campaign for Racial Equality.
