Campbell, Malcolm (1885-1948)

British racing driver who once held both land- and water-speed records. He set the land-speed record nine times, pushing it up to 484.8 kph/301.1 mph at Bonneville Flats, Utah, USA, in 1935, and broke the water-speed record three times, the best being 228.2 kph/141.74 mph on Coniston Water, England, in 1939. His car and boat were both called Bluebird.

Campbell was knighted in 1931. His son Donald Campbell emulated his feats, but died during an attempt to break his own water-speed record.
