Campbell River

District municipality in Comox-Strathcona Regional District, southwest British Columbia, Canada, at the mouth of the Campbell River, on the east coast of Vancouver Island, 233 km/145 mi northwest of Victoria; population (1991) 21,200. In Kwakiutl homelands, it became before 1900 a logging settlement, and today is a lumber and paper milling centre, also noted for its salmon fishing. It is also a tourist and commercial hub.
