Campbeltown

Town and fishing port in Argyll and Bute unitary authority, Scotland, 10 km/6 mi north of the southernmost tip of the narrow Kintyre peninsula; population (2001) 5,200. It has an excellent harbour, sheltered by Davaar Island, with related industries including herring and white fishing, net making, boat-building, and some tourism. Economic diversity is provided by the town's creameries and whisky distilleries, and clothing is also manufactured.
