Campobasso

Capital of Molise region, Italy, about 190 km/120 mi southeast of Rome; population (2001) 50,800. An agricultural market town, its principal industry is the manufacture of cutlery. The old town is built on a hill crowned with a 16th-century castle, and there are several fine churches. The Sagra di Misteri festival is held annually at Corpus Christi in June.
