Campobello

Island in Charlotte County, southwest New Brunswick, Canada, at the entrance to Passamaquoddy Bay and the Bay of Fundy, off the eastern tip of Maine, USA; area 39 sq km/15 sq mi; population (1991 est) 1,300. Linked to Lubec, Maine, by bridge since 1962, it is a summer resort and home to fishermen.

The Roosevelt Campobello International Park (1,100 ha/2,720 ac, established 1964) includes on the western side at Welshpool Franklin D Roosevelt's childhood summer home, where he was stricken with polio in 1921. The park is administered by a joint US–Canadian commission.
