Canandaigua

City in western New York, USA, at the northern end of Lake Canandaigua, 40 km/25 mi southeast of Rochester; seat of Ontario County; population (1990) 10,700. It is a manufacturing centre set in a resort area; important industries include the production of typewriter ribbons, labels, plastics, clothing, fishing tackle, furniture, and wine.

The Pickering Treaty with the Six Nations of the Iroquois was signed here in 1794. Canandaigua is home to the Community College of the Finger Lakes (1965).
