Canastota

Town in Lenox township, Madison County, central New York, USA, on the New York State Barge Canal, 32 km/20 mi east of Syracuse; population (1990) 4,700. It has a variety of light industries. Situated in an agricultural area, Canastota also has canning and dairy processing facilities, and serves as a distribution point for locally grown onions and other produce.

Settled in 1806, it was an early-20th-century centre for the production of handmade crystal.
