candlestick chart

Graphic representation of share performance favoured by stock analysts. The chart shows a share's opening, closing, high, and low prices.

A vertical rectangular box, the body of the candle, joins the opening and closing prices, with the opening price at the top, and the closing price at the bottom. The box is left empty if the closing price is higher than the opening price, and coloured in if the opening price is higher than the closing price. At either end of the body are thin lines (the wick of the candle, protruding from both ends) representing the highest price (at the top of the candle) and the lowest price (beneath the candle).
