Caniff, (Milton) Milt (1907-1988)

US cartoonist. He was the creator of the action-adventure newspaper comic strips Dickie Dare 1933-34, and Terry and the Pirates (1934-46). His Steve Canyon, featuring the adventures of an ex-pilot, made its first appearance in 1947. His work was greatly admired for its realistic detail in the drawings and storyline.

He was born in Hillsboro, Ohio.
