Cannes Film Festival

International film festival held every year in Cannes, France.

The first festival was held in 1946. The main award is the Palme d'Or (known as the Grand Prix until 1955) for best film. Other awards are made for direction, best screenplay, female performance, and male performance, and there are additional awards, including the Grand Jury Prize, the Special Jury Prize, the critics' award, and the Palme d'Or for Best Short Film.

The festival is run by the Association Française du Festival International du Film, created in 1946 with the support of the of the French ministries of culture and foreign affairs.

THE 62nd Cannes Film Festival has opened with hopes high for British success.
The organization committee of the 62nd Cannes Film Festival hold a press conference on Thursday to make public the films to compete in the festival, and the members of the jury.
Plans for the film were unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival this week and shooting is set to begin at Yasnaya Polyana, the author's estate 120 miles south of Moscow, next year.
