Cannock

Town in Staffordshire, England; population (2001) 7,800. It is situated 32 km/20 mi north of Birmingham, at the centre of Cannock Chase an area of moorland between Lichfield and Stafford, where coal used to be mined. Most of the land north of the town is owned by the Forestry Commission. Local industries include brick- and tile-making, and light engineering.

A considerable number of people commute daily from Cannock to the West Midlands.
