Cap-de-la-Madeleine

City in Champlain County, southern Québec, Canada, on the northern shore of the St Lawrence River at the mouth of the River Saint-Maurice, across which (to the west) is Trois-Rivières; population (1991) 33,700. Cap-de-la-Madeleine was settled in the 1630s but did not develop significantly until the 20th century, when saw and pulp mills, and then aluminum foil, clothing, abrasive, and chemical plants opened.

The Sanctuaire Notre-Dame-du-Cap has been a pilgrimage site since the 1880s.
