Cape Dorset

Hamlet in the Baffin Region on Dorset Island, just off the Foxe Peninsula of southwest Baffin Island, in the Canadian territory of Nunavut; population (1996 est) 1,100. Once a Hudson's Bay Company Trading post, it is now a centre for Inuit artists and printmakers; seal hunting is also important.

Archaeological remains in the area have given a name to the Dorset culture of 500 BC–1000 AD.

Features include the Migratory Bird Sanctuary (1958) and Mallikjuaq Historic Park. The area also contains part of the Nunavut Arctic College (1984) and an airport.
