Cape gooseberry

Plant Physalis peruviana of the potato family. Originating in South America, it is grown in South Africa, from where it takes its name. It is cultivated for its fruit, a yellow berry surrounded by a papery calyx.

The edible version of the Chinese Lantern is called Physalis edulis, commonly called the Cape Gooseberry, and you will often find this being served up as part of a delicious desert in some restaurants.
