Good Hope, Cape of

A headland on the South African coast near Cape Town, the Cape of Good Hope is situated at the point where warm currents from the Indian Ocean converge with cool waters from the Antarctic Ocean, and it is known for its stormy seas and weather. Vegetation on the Cape is characterized by low shrubs and grass.

South African headland forming a peninsula between Table Bay and False Bay, Cape Town. The first European to sail around it was Bartolomeu Diaz in 1488. Formerly named Cape of Storms, it was given its present name by King John II of Portugal.
