Capella, Martianus Minneus Felix

    0.01 sec.

Capella, Martianus Minneus Felix (lived 4th–5th centuries)

Latin philosopher and writer on the liberal arts, active in Carthage. His De musica, widely read from the 9th century onwards, is the ninth and last book of his De nuptiis Philologiae et Mercurii. His treatise, deriving in part from Varro, had considerable influence on later medieval theorists. It was also largely based on Peri mousikēs by Aristedes Quintillianus, especially as concerns musical terminology, classification, and aesthetics of music.
